We all know that Dota 2 and Half-Life: Alyx are currently running on the Source 2 engine. However, the developers have been pretty lazy lately, since CSGO still runs on the original Source engine. But there are plenty of rumors from reliable sources that CS: GO will receive a Source 2 overhaul on the 18th of May. Valve has not made any official announcements, but it might very well be possible since the release of Riot’s Valorant has put CSGO developers in a hot seat.
About Source 2 being released in CSGO in 2 months: it seems trustworthy because I heard from reliable sources BUT with Valve you can never be 100% confident with unofficial dates. Better multiply it by two.
Anyway I'm not sure about it yet, have to check personally and ask more.

In this article, we will have a comprehensive look at what changes we can expect from the upcoming Source 2 engine.
New physics
A new engine can significantly change the dynamics of the game. We won’t be surprised if Valve goes all in and modifies the pattern of the footsteps of the in-game characters. It will depend exclusively on the developer and how it will use the new technology. Everything can be changed, from the basic animations like defusing the C4 or throwing grenades to how the chickens move on Inferno.
Tick 128
CSGO’s new rival, Valorant, already tests the game on servers with a 128 tick rate. This improvement has been a very hot topic in the CSGO community since other platforms have offered the latest server for quite some time and we could very well get it in the next few weeks.
New graphics and optimizations
A new graphics engine suggests significant improvement in the game’s interface. Another thing that we can expect is the smoothness of the game on less powerful computers. Theoretically, a new Source would make everything more optimized, since it comes precisely to balance the work between the processor and video card within the system. Players should expect a better frame rate with the new overhaul. (NOTE: Do not expect extremely realistic graphics as seen in some videos out there. Since they could interfere with competitive modes and will be a threat to the new optimizations.
Improvement in the Anti-cheat
This is the most important change that the CSGO needs at the moment. Since it would be pointless to apply large investments and changes in the game and not fix the most critical of the FPS. Improvement in the Anti-cheat will be warmly welcomed by the players. Since the community is tired of playing against hackers in the game.
The return of legendary maps
Can you imagine the launch of Source 2 being announced with the return of a map like the old Cobblestone for competitive rotation? It would be something great and would certainly attract a decent audience that has already left the game. Bringing up other old maps and other game modes (for example Aztec in casual) can be a very good move. Since CSGO would not be amongst the best eSports titles if it weren’t for these nostalgic maps.
In the end, we can all hope that when the game moves to the Source 2 engine, it won’t bring problems to the gameplay and improve the frame rate and graphics. Please feel free to
