Two undefeated heavyweights square off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas as Tyson Fury (27-0-1) and Tom Schwarz (24-0) meet in the ring on Saturday night. Both fighters are among the top heavyweights in the world, putting the winner of this contest into a favourable position in the division.
Tom Schwarz
Tom Schwarz will be tested like never before on Saturday. The German is still carrying around an undefeated record, but his competition in the recent past has been questionable to say the least. Out of his 24 professional fights, only one of them has been held outside of Germany, exhibiting a lack of experience. The experience discrepancy may have had a big impact on Schwarz’s betting odds, as the 25-year-old is coming into this bout as the heavy underdog, with the odds of a moneyline bet on Schwarz sitting at (+1000). Many bettors will be considering placing a wager on this line due to the performance of heavyweight Andy Ruiz put on as a big underdog against Anthony Joshua, but this bet wouldn’t be the best idea. Despite his undefeated record, the German has yet to face the top level boxers of this division. Look for a lack of cardio and footwork to wear on Schwarz in this one, as Fury will be expected to push a gruelling tempo. Schwarz will come into this fight having to overcome a huge difference in size, reach, speed, and experience, making for a tough matchup on Saturday for this underdog.
Tom Schwarz has performed exceptionally well in the last 14 months, a time period in which the German remained extremely active. Since last April, Schwarz has a 4-0 record, winning all four fights via stoppage.
Tyson Fury
Tyson Fury has had fun with his media obligations leading up to the fight, but now it’s time to perform. Coming in as the (-2500) betting favourite, expectations are high for the top ranked heavyweight. Fury is sitting pretty in the world boxing rankings, coming in at #2 in the WBC rankings, and #3 in the WBO. Despite a three-year hiatus from 2015-2018, Fury has been able to maintain his unique and dominant boxing style. The hand speed and footwork of the 6’9 heavyweight is truly remarkable for his size, making him one of the most difficult matchups in the division. No fighter has been able to beat Fury, and it doesn’t look like it will happen on Saturday. With superior technique and fitness, Fury looks set to dominate his fight against Schwarz in all categories.
Like his opponent, Fury has also stayed busy in the last calendar year, going 2-0-1 in three bouts. His last performance was one of the most impressive of his career, as he went 12 rounds in a draw against top ranked heavyweight Deontay Wilder. The draw is the only blemish on Fury’s record, as the “Gypsy King” has won 27 of his 28 professional fights.
Our Verdict
After Anthony Joshua’s loss, Tyson Fury has a huge chance to jump to the top of the heavyweight division with a win. Fury comes into this one as a huge favourite, and for good reason. Fury has looked world class since his return to boxing in the summer of 2018, and Saturday’s matchup against Schwarz is lining up to be another tally in the win column. The skillset of Tyson Fury will be overwhelming for Schwarz, who has little experience with the top ranked heavyweights. With Fury being such a favourite, it may be hard to make placing wagers on this one, but here is a bet that we see value in.
Tyson Fury to win in Rounds 7-9 (+300)
