Epic Games announced on 15th May that Fortnite will be available for Playstation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X at the time of their releases, which are scheduled to take place at the end of 2020. Initially, the Battle Royale was released for the previous generation consoles on Unreal Engine 4, but it has already been confirmed that the game will undergo a migration to Unreal Engine 5. This migration will take place in mid-2021, which will certainly introduce visual improvements to the game.
It should be also kept in mind that Epic will not fail to provide the same support for the platforms where Fortnite is already available, on PC, Mac , Playstation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile versions on Android and iPhone phones ( iOS ). In addition, the developer made it clear that this is not a new version of Fortnite, instead it is optimized to take full advantage of the features of the hi-tech consoles releasing later this year.

Unreal Engine 5 for the next generation consoles
Unreal Engine 5 was announced with a demo for Playstation 5 called “Lumen in the Land of Nanite”. In the video for this demo, an exhibition of the Nanite was made public,a system that will allow artists to create as many geometric details as possible for the game in question. Lumen will also provide new features for lighting in games. A trial version of Unreal Engine 5 will be released in early 2021. Its official launch will take place later that year, probably alongside the migration from Fortnite to that engine.

Currently a global success, Fortnite reached the milestone of 350 million registered players, a record that was celebrated with a virtual concert within the game. Recently, Epic Games also hosted a live show with Travis Scott. The event with the American rapper took place on April 23, 24 and 25 and set an audience record. According to Epic Games, more than 12.3 million simultaneous players followed Travis Scott’s virtual performance at Battle Royale. The previous record belonged to DJ Marshmello, who brought together more than 10 million players at his show held in February 2019.
The Battle Royale launch for the next generation of consoles is expected to be one of the most famous and profitable games in the world. Epic Games continues to support the game, launched in 2017 introducing new seasons and various content for its players on a regular basis. At the time of this writing, Season 2 Chapter 3 is unfolding in Fortnite and the next update is set to take place on 4th June. It is rumored to come with an underwater theme which we haven’t seen in the game before and will also pave the way for a new mechanic called environmental damage, which will allow players to set fire to buildings. We can’t wait to see what other changes are coming to the game that will surely help Fortnite achieve the 400 million registered players mark.
