What Is Smite All About?
You can take on the form of one of many mythological Gods. Smite gives you a chance to step into the shoes of:

Game Modes
You have a bunch of game modes to choose from, once you’ve decided on your God. Now it’s time to decide if you want to play in conquest, arena, siege, joust, assault, or clash.
For each game mode you get relevant information, including the map objective, amount of time that mode takes to complete, and how many people you can play it with. You will also be able to find out what rewards you’ll get for completing each mode. Where To Start
When you play Smite for the first time, it’s always good to try out the arena mode. It puts you in a virtual death match so you can test your skills and start devising your strategy. The auto level and auto buy features will help you learn how to get started. More experienced players may prefer jumping into a competitive team. This is the logical first step if you ever want to play in a Smite tournament.
A Smite Walk-Through
The game starts with all participating players being divided up into two teams of five players each. Both teams have their own fountain on one side of the map or the other. Armed with gold, you can purchase the items you need to get started. The items you purchase with your gold will help your God enhance their abilities and unlock certain bonuses.
Three lanes run the map’s length. You will encounter two defensive towers and a Phoenix on each lane. Destroying the Phoenix of each enemy is your main objective in the game. Along with them, you have to also successfully defeat the Titan.
But you will have automated minions to help you out along the way. These tiny soldiers are reproduced every 30 seconds. While they attack each other they will also attack other players and even the Titan, towers and each Phoenix. You can’t fully take out any of them without getting assistance from the minions.
Between lanes there are large areas covered by jungles. This is where Furies and cyclops are found spawning. They spread out all over the map, so you always have to be on the lookout for them. When you kill select jungle monsters, it drops something called a buff. Any player can pick them up.
If you are lucky enough to get a buff you temporarily get some special powers. What you get from a luff depends on which creature drops it. You might get extra speed, a power bonus, or a similar perk.
While the cyclops and furies spawn pretty often, a trio of special monsters are more finicky about when they spawn. If you and your team members kill the Pyromancer, Fire Giant, and Gold Fury, you get a damage buff, along with a boost in your speed and your share of the game’s gold.
Working your way up all 20 levels of the game is the battle of your lifetime. And it’s not one you can accomplish alone.
Matching Up Players
Like most games of its kind, Smite is played all over the world. In response to this, by the end of 2013 Smite players could access either the EU or US Server. Though this feature was removed for awhile, it was later added back to the game.
With the old system players were matched together after a three minute search. When the game’s matching system underwent some changes, the way players were matched up was different. The three minute time limit was eliminated and players were matched up based on new algorithms that measured and ranked players by game skills.
Today’s matchmaking system is slightly different. It has been expanded to include timed searches tailored to each individual game mode. Players’ overall performance is now used to determine who they are matched up with.
Smite players are now assigned to Ranked Leagues. Each one has a number rating based entirely on their skills. Players are matched up with other players who are ranked similarly.
Professional Smite Leagues
Once you’re a seasoned player, you might look towards participating in a Smite competitions. Since 2014 the competitions has helped the game gain even more worldwide attention. Five players teams can join championship tournaments.
While the competitions were originally only played offline, they later expanded to include the Internet. The teams that performed the best, online, offline, or both, participated in the 2015 Smite World Championship. At that time, the cash prize awarded to the champion made history for being ranked number three on the list of the world’s largest prize pools in the esports industry.
