Alexander Zverev to make comeback

German tennis player Alexander Zverev is making a comeback after undergoing surgery for a right ankle injury he sustained during the Roland Garros semifinals against Rafael Nadal in 2022. According to his older brother, Mischa Zverev, Alexander is currently pain-free and training for the upcoming 2023 season.

In an interview with Eurosport Germany, Mischa Zverev shared that they were able to train together last week, and even played a little longer on Monday. Alexander is said to be feeling good and pain-free, but will need a few matches before the big season begins.

Mischa explained that Alexander has not been able to play any games since his match against Nadal, and they have signed up for a couple of exhibition tournaments to prepare for the Australian Open, which is set to take place from January 16-29th.

Alexander himself announced last week that he will be playing in the Dubai exhibition event in December. Mischa also shared that Alexander is planning to participate in the United Cup, a new international mixed team event featuring ATP and WTA stars playing on the same team, in January as preparation for the Melbourne major.

Mischa emphasized the importance of playing against top players in order to feel the adrenaline and to test Alexander’s foot. He added that training sets at home without an audience are different from playing on court with ball boys and referees, and that they need to practice how to behave on second serves and when the score is 30-30.

Alexander Zverev reached the semifinals of the 2020 Australian Open and fell in the fourth round in 2022. With just over two months to prepare, Alexander is gearing up for a strong performance in the upcoming season.
